Title: Nausea
Characters: Dr. Spencer Reid, Jason Gideon
Pairings: Gen!
Rating: PG-13, for subject matter.
Summary: “You’re only human, Spencer.”
Word Count: ~145
Prompt(s): "mommy/daddy issues"
Disclaimer: Criminal Minds, the characters and situations, and other related things belong to Jeff Davis and CBS, which is to say: not me.
A/N: written for ~cm_drabbles @ LJ. Spoilers for 2.18, "Jones."

Looking in the mirror makes Spencer feel nauseated. Or maybe that’s the withdrawal. Either way, he’s bracing himself on the toilet soon enough. His knees fall hard on the tiles and his hair hovers dangerously around his ears as he empties his stomach. What he hasn’t eaten comes up readily and he doesn’t know how long he’s at it before Gideon comes and holds hair back.

When it finally lets up, Gideon helps him to the sofa and Spencer cocoons himself in blankets again, wondering how long it’ll be before he starts sweating instead of freezing.

“I guess I’m pretty stupid for a genius,” he mutters, grimly remembering Ethan’s words.

Gideon pats his shoulder and reminds him, “You’re only human, Spencer.”

Despite his attempts to avoid it, Spencer’s voice cracks as he asks, “Why couldn’t you have been in my life ten years sooner?”
